Stony Brook's Tommy Brenton has earned the StatSheet America East Player of the Week for the week ending December 24th. Stony Brook's Jameel Warney has been recognized as StatSheet America East Freshman of the Week. And last but not least, Boston University's Malik Thomas is the StatSheet America East 6th Man of the Week. Brenton tallied a strong showing in scoring (8.5 pts per game), rebounding (9.5 per game), and assists (7 per game). The Stony Brook senior put these numbers up in a win against Sacred Heart and a loss to Maryland.
Brenton led all rebounding for the Seawolves with 11 while adding 4 steals in a close 64-59 win over Sacred Heart. That was followed by a team-leading 8 rebounds and an additional 9 assists in a 76-69 loss to Maryland.
This is the first time this season that Tommy Brenton has been named StatSheet America East Player of the Week. The runner-up this week is our own Justin Edwards. Honorable mention goes to our own Alasdair Fraser.
StatSheet America East Freshman of the Week: Stony Brook's Jameel Warney
Jameel Warney averaged 28 minutes of playing time while starting both games for Stony Brook. He bested all America East freshmen in scoring (17.0 pts per game), rebounding (6.0 per game), and blocked shots (3.0 per game). In the win over Sacred Heart, Warney led all scoring for the Seawolves with 17 and added 3 blocked shots. In the loss to Maryland, he led all scoring with a 17 point show and added 3 blocked shots.
This is the first StatSheet America East Freshman of the Week honor for Jameel Warney. Evan Cooper from Hartford gets runner-up. Honorable mention goes to our own Shaun Lawton.
StatSheet America East 6th Man of the Week: Boston University's Malik Thomas
Sophomore Malik Thomas, a 6-7 guard/forward, played 24 minutes during a single game for the Terriers. In a 70-57 win over Cornell, Thomas led the way for the Terriers with 5 rebounds and added 83% shooting.
This is the first StatSheet America East 6th Man of the Week win for Malik Thomas. Clancy Rugg, a junior forward from Vermont, is runner up. Sam Rowley, a sophomore forward from Albany, receives honorable mention. Maine has yet to win the StatSheet America East Player of the Week award this season.
